Electro-deposition Coatings
The electro-deposition of organic coating is a complex process the deposition is not a matter of plating, but depends in the electrolysis of water at the interface between the coating and the metal electrode to produce protons (anodic electro-deposition; AED) or hydroxyl ions (cationic electro-deposition: CED) and precipitate the negatively charged resins (AED) or positively charged resins (CED). But the AED process is gradually replaced by the CED process, because the metal ions freed from the anode of the AED will be incorporated to casue the reducing of corrosion protection and discoloration of the organic ED film.
Tatung Fine Chenicals (TFC) was the first introduces CED technology into Taiwan in 1980 from PGA(USA) and started to study the syntheses of electro-deposition resins with Doctor Yang Chin-Ping (Processor of Department of Chemical Engineering of Tatung University) in 1985. TFC successfully established CED resin plant and started to produce CED coatings in 1994.
The electro-coating systems generally consist of epoxy or acrylic polymer backbones. The acrylic CED(Ac-CED)
The epoxy CED(E-CED)ĄG
Epocy Cathodic Electrodeposition Coating (E-CED). The epoxy CED(E-CED) providing excellent corrosion and adhesion properties is generally used to apply tje primer to most automobiles and a wide various products.
